How much does EDDM cost in 2026?

Every Door Direct Mail is the cheapest postage the USPS sells, and the sticker price is only a third of the story. Here is what a real EDDM campaign costs in 2026, whether you do it yourself or have a service handle it.

What EDDM is, in one paragraph

EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) is a USPS program that delivers your postcard to every active address on a postal carrier route. You pick routes, not people, so you need no mailing list, no names, and no bulk-mail permit for the retail version. The tradeoff is that pieces must be oversized (that is why EDDM postcards are big, like 6.5 by 9 inches), and everyone on the route gets one.

The three costs that make up every EDDM campaign

1. Postage. EDDM Retail postage is 24.7 cents per piece in 2026. That is the whole appeal: a First-Class postcard stamp costs 65 cents after the July 2026 USPS price change, so saturation postage runs at roughly a third of the single-piece rate.

2. Printing. Jumbo EDDM cards (6.5 by 9) typically run 15 to 45 cents per piece from online printers depending on quantity, paper, and turnaround. Short runs cost more per piece; 5,000-piece runs get the low end.

3. Prep, or a service fee. This is the cost people forget. Retail EDDM requires you to design to USPS specs, bundle cards in stacks of 50 to 100 with facing slips, fill out the paperwork, and deliver the bundles to each route’s post office. Do it yourself and you pay in hours. Use a full-service provider and it is built into a per-piece or monthly fee.

Worked example: one 500-home route

Postage: 500 × $0.247 = $123.50

Printing: 500 × ~$0.30 = ~$150

DIY total: ~$275 plus design time plus a trip to the post office

Full-service EDDM across the industry typically lands between 60 cents and $1.20 per piece all-in once design, printing, postage, and drop-off are bundled. On a 500-home route that is $300 to $600 with none of the paperwork.

What StampSherpa charges

Our Neighborhood plan is $349 per month and mails about 200 homes on a neighborhood route each month, with extra homes at $1.75 each. Design, printing, postage, and USPS handling are all included, the card is designed from your website automatically, and every card carries a scannable code so you can see responses in your dashboard. The Complete plan ($549 per month) adds 100 addressed postcards for mailing your own list alongside the neighborhood send.

The cost questions that actually decide it

  • Cost per response beats cost per piece. At a 1 percent response on 500 homes you get 5 responses. If a new customer is worth $3,000 to a roofer, one response pays for many months of mailing. If a customer is worth $15, the math needs a much denser route and a stronger offer.
  • Route size is set by the USPS, not you. Carrier routes typically hold a few hundred households. You buy whole routes, so your real minimum is the smallest route near you.
  • Repetition is part of the budget. Industry studies from Lob and the ANA consistently find multi-touch campaigns outperform single drops, with three or more touches lifting response by as much as 50 percent. Budget for a monthly rhythm, not a one-off.

Common questions

Do I need a mailing list or permit for EDDM?
No. EDDM Retail requires no list, no names, and no bulk-mail permit. You choose carrier routes and the USPS delivers to every active address on them.
What is the EDDM postage rate in 2026?
EDDM Retail postage is 24.7 cents per piece in 2026, compared with 65 cents for a First-Class postcard stamp after the July 2026 price change.
Is there a minimum or maximum quantity?
You mail whole carrier routes, which typically hold a few hundred households each. EDDM Retail also caps at 5,000 pieces per ZIP code per day.
Why are EDDM postcards so big?
USPS requires EDDM pieces to be flat-sized, which in practice means oversized formats like 6.5 by 9 inches. The upside is a card that dominates the mailbox.
How fast does EDDM arrive?
Plan on printing plus USPS Marketing Mail delivery, which usually lands within one to two weeks of the mail date. It is a rhythm channel, not a same-week channel.
